John Daly has been DJing and playing live music around Europe for about 13 years, with appearances at Panorama Bar in Berlin, Zukunft in Zurich and Deep Space New York.
Making a name for himself in recent years on Francois K's legendary 'Wave' imprint, John went on to found his own label, 'Feel Music' in 2005.
His first full length album, Sea & Sky out on Wave is our choice Long player of 2009 so far. If you haven't heard it, we recommend that you sort that out, here's what to expect;
"Sea & Sky is a journey that ebbs and flows its way into your heart and mind via haunting melodies, shimmering harmonies and pulsating rhythms. Swirling pads and bubbling chords dance on top of hypnotic arpeggios creating lush yet spacious landscapes where heavenly bliss and cathartic melancholy rule the day."
Yep...
His name has been turning up on club listings, track listings and everywhere we look on the net. We finally caved in and John we'll be joining us at Charlies for his Manchester debut this month.
A great DJ, expect him to be sporting a fine beard and showing his musical roots as well as his production, ranging from disco, jazz , acid and deep electronics. His mixes have been on heavy rotation over the last 12 months, take your pick...

We caught up with John and asked him a few questions prior to his Manchester debut.
1. Hi John where are you living these days and what's going down there?
I've been living in galway in the west of ireland for 2 years now... there's a really nice autumn feeling around here at the moment, crisp sunny mornings and the leaves are falling, lots of lighting the fire and staying in, it's a good time of the year for me, when i'm most productive musically.
2. How did you end up releasing on Francois K's "Wave" label?
I was attempting to get wave music to distribute our label in the states, they used to do that a little bit, so chancing my arm i sent brendon moeller a bunch of unreleased stuff, "these will be the next few releases etc" and though a distribution deal wasn't possible they wanted instead to have the tracks for wave. of course i said yes.
3 What's the deal at 'Deep Space', any good?
It's brilliant. there's such a very broad music policy, from a djing perspective it's very satisfying to be able to play dr. john next to kraftwerk.
4. Can you tell us a little bit about what we can expect to here next on your own label "Feel music"?
There's gonna be a new one from me hopefully, if i can get it finished....more from max essa, and next year there'll be some stuff from a band i am producing, called february and mars. also i am starting a new label, one track records, which will geared more towards the floor.
5. It seems you've been able to travel the world and play some of the top clubs out there. However you haven't played the humble city of Manchester... Have you found it difficult getting booked to play in the UK?
I really can't wait to go to manchester, i've wanted to visit for a very long time. i've only ever played in london uk wise, so i guess yeah, it's difficult. i'd love to play in scotland, they are our celtic brothers so i'm sure it would be cool.
6. Is there anywhere you have been recently on your travels that deserves more attention, Labels/Djs/Clubs...?
Georgia. i played there this summer. great people, weather, food. great country.
7. Your getting a name for being a versatile Dj, any sure-players that have a place in your heart?
Anything by moodymann
8. What's all this I here you've been saying about Jazz coming back...?
Well, everything is so techy these days, there will eventually have to be a reaction, it's just a matter of cycles. but it's important to note that i mean jazz, not "jazzy". there's a huge difference. jazzy house? never again thanks - jazz? yes please...
9. I feel personally that sometimes there isn't enough humor in electronic music and it's great when you see artists adding this aspect to the music, live or in the studio. Do you have an opinion on this?
A bit of humour is always a good thing. i reckon a lot of artist/track names are pisstakes, it's a good way to get a bit of humour into such serious music, even if it's just you and your friends who get the joke..
10. Thanks for talking to us, I know you're a busy lad. Any closing thoughts that you'd like to share?
Just that i'm very much looking forward to this gig, and seeing your city. it's great that i get in so early, i can get a proper look around. see you in a few weeks.
