Following in the vein of our 4th birthday party with Andrew Weatherall,
we have decided to invite a few of our personal heroes to play Charlies
during 2010 (as a Naive Melody heroes series if you like...). The
artists have been briefed to do as they wish, so bring an open mind and
a happy heart.
Here's some things we like about Ivan Smagghe;
- In previous years he was "House and Techno buyer" for Rough Trade Paris
- Once host of "Bad Karma" the legendary show on Radio Nova
- For being one of the trusted few who have ever taken over the reigns at "Optimo" when Twitch & Wilkes are away
- He stands at the decks along side Lord Sabre as Weatherall's one and only sparring partner
- His outspoken insistence that "good" music comes first before "club" music
- For coining wild phrases with Arnaud Rebotini such as "frozen balearic gay biker house"
France's most wanted radio host and selector, Ivan Smagghe stands at the crossroads between glamorous parisian hype and musical integrity. Personally we're just humbled to have the man in Charlies for what is surely set to be his most personal appearance in Manchester to date.
For Smagghe fans of old, this is not to be missed.
Advance tickets are £8 from Piccadilly records and Eastern Bloc.
